The Township of Wellesley is preparing a Master Plan for a New Community Park located at the corner of Hutchison Road and Queen’s Bush Road. The Township has retained the consulting team of FJ Galloway Associates Inc. plus GSP Group Inc. to coordinate the process and create a schematic design that is aligned with the diverse recreational interests of residents of the Township on the 40 acre site.
Currently, the Township is responsible for the management and delivery of many services and amenities including approximately 26 hectares of park, 4 hectares of open space, and 2.5 km of trails and pathways. The Township also manages 2 arenas, 3 community centres, 1 splash pad, 7 playgrounds, 1 dog park, 1 skate park, 7 baseball diamonds, 7 sports fields, 3 outdoor multi-use sports pads and 1 community garden.
A comprehensive Master Plan for this site will allow the Township to strategically guide and manage the direction of services, programming and events, public open space, trails, recreation facilities and related amenities for the next 10-15 years.
Community consultation is a key piece to this process and the success of the Master Plan. There will be several ways to provide feedback. Currently the consultants are involved in meetings and focus groups with staff, Council, and over 20 identified stakeholders. There will be a public Township open house meeting at the Crosshill Mennonite Church located at 2537 Hutchison Road on September 19th, 2018 from 5:00-7:30 p.m. An on-line survey will be conducted after the open house so that the entire Township can get involved and speak up and take part in a discussion about its parks, recreation facilities and services direction to identify priorities for this strategic opportunity for the Township.
